New Products and Info from the
2008 NAMM Convention

Written by Tony Aiello

Another year has gone by, and it's another bitterly cold January and February here in Pittsburgh. However, this year, Don Hollowood was the chosen one to go to Anaheim, CA and bask in the warm Cali Sun, have fun at Disney, hang out with rock stars all day, party all night, and get to play with all the new toys being presented at the NAMM show. Alright, so maybe it's not all that, but it is a good time. Can you tell I'm just a little bit jealous?
For those of you who are not aware, NAMM, aka the National Association of Music Merchants, annually in January, holds their largest convention in Anaheim, CA. where all the manufacturers display and demo their "latest and greatest" to music dealers from all around the world. From small almost closet sized displays to one company using an entire ballroom in a nearby hotel displaying their gear, it's an amazing place to be for these four days in January. Lights, sound, fog machines, anything goes for these displays and you can taste the excitement in the air. Or maybe it's the NAMM hotdogs on the grill? Hm? Sorry, I digress.
From demonstrations of new gear from product specialists to full performances from some of the biggest names in the biz, there's a surprize around every corner. And this year was no exception.

Listen to the "Hollowood Music Theme" © 2008 by Tony Aiello

This project was recorded in Sonar using midi tracks from a Yamaha MotifES Rack, a Roland XR88 loaded with expansion boards, and some help with background vocals and vocoder parts from a Roland VP550. A Yamaha 01x is used for my Audio/MIDI interface and control surface. Oh and yes, that's me singing on a Behringer B2 Pro Condenser Mic thru a Behringer Mic Pre.
All compression, EQ's and effects are standard Sonar supplied plug-ins. Listen and enjoy!
